Spring and fall are the best times to install a fence in Boise. Late March through May and September through November offer ideal conditions — moderate temperatures, accessible soil, and reasonable contractor availability.

Season-by-Season Breakdown

Spring (March-May) — Excellent

Ground thaws out and becomes workable. Temperatures stay moderate. Contractor schedules open up after the winter slowdown. Materials are readily available. The main downside is that spring is increasingly popular, so book early to secure your preferred contractor and timing.

Summer (June-August) — Good, but Busy

Peak demand season means higher prices and longer wait times. Ground is dry and hard, which slows post digging. Heat affects worker productivity. If you're flexible on timing, avoid July and August if possible — you'll pay a premium and wait longer.

Fall (September-November) — Excellent

Our favorite time of year for installations. Contractors have more availability after summer's rush. Temperatures are perfect for working and for concrete curing. Ground is still accessible. Get your fence in before the holidays and winter weather sets in.

Winter (December-February) — Difficult

Frozen ground makes post installation difficult and expensive. Concrete won't cure properly below 40°F without additives. Shorter daylight hours reduce productivity. That said, some contractors offer off-season discounts significant enough to justify the challenges.
